NEWS Emergency Response to Earthquake Victims in Kepulauan Yapen District, Papua Province Kamis, 22 Juli 2010, 15:41 WIB Viewed : 104 times Tectonic earthquake with 6,8 Richter scale jolted Papua province on 16 June 2010 followed with two major aftershocks with 7,1 and 6,6 Richter scale shortly after. Boanerges Foundation (YBNS) of Kepulauan Yapen reported that 227 houses seriously damaged and collapsed and 560 with minor damaged. The report listed that 2 people were sent to death because of the disaster in Serui. The calamity also destructed public facilities, Public Hospital of Serui and several houses of worship in Serui. Soon after, YAKKUM Emergency Unit (YEU), hand in hand with Boanerges Foundation evacuated the victims and helped the survivors by distributing tarpaulins for temporary shelter, body bags, clothes for covering the human corpses, 400 liters of kerosene for community in Warironi and Ambaidiru sub-villages, and transportation to carry tarpaulin from Sentani Airport to Serui.
