YEU Response to Sinabung Erruption

On Sunday, 29 August 2010; Mount Sinabung in Karo district, North Sumatra erupted and forced more than 27.000 people to flee from their houses.

Waste Management and First Aid Trainings for Villagers

In an effort to build closer relationship with the community in Hargobinangun village where Disaster Oasis (DIOS) located, YEU organized a chain of training. On 8 July 2010, the villagers of Tanen, Panggeran, and Purworejo sub-villages were brought bunch of skill and knowledge about waste management, and followed with first aid training on 9 July 2010. The waste management was facilitated by Mas Didik (Didik Riyanto) and Mas Yadi (Suyadi) – Logistic Staffs from YEU. Whereas Mas Joko (Joko Sulaksono), also Logistic Staff from YEU, accompanied by Mas Yadi transformed their first aid skill and knowledge to the villagers.
Those training activities were successful and got good response from the villagers. Moreover, they needed more training and to be assisted, especially related to the organic fertilizer making. This demand meets their occupation as farmers. However, YEU will assist them after they form their farmer group. “They can request agricultural training from YEU when they need”, YEU staff said.
The series of DIOS socialization was ended with villagers gathering in DIOS, on 12 July 2010.
